WHAT IS LOWER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY?

The lower blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery to treat under-eye bags and wrinkled under-eye skin.. To improve the overall appearance of the eyes, it is often recommended to combine this operation with micro and nano lipofilling, which simultaneously treats deepened and colored dark circles. Your oculoplastic surgeon will advise you on the treatment best suited to your eyes.

A oculoplastic surgeon specializing in eyelid surgery and eye surgery in general, such as Dr. Hayot, can help you develop a personalized personalized treatment and aesthetic interventionin which each problem is treated in its own specific way.

WHEN SHOULD LOWER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY BE PERFORMED?

Lower eyelids tend to wrinkle, crease and sag with age.. This situation can also lead to the appearance of malar bags at the bottom of dark circles. These are often bags under the eyes that encourage you to take the plunge into lower blepharoplasty. Visit dark circles are also a frequent reason for consultation, and from the age of 50 onwards, puffiness and dark circles are frequently combined in the cosmetic surgery performed on your eyelids.

Puffiness around the eyes

Dr Hayot recommends transconjunctival removal of bags and excess fat. The scar is therefore hidden in the conjunctiva, inside the lower eyelid. The incision made with the laser scalpel prevents bleeding and thus the occurrence of post-operative haematomas. This absence of bleeding also ensures better visibility for the surgeon, an essential parameter for the success of the surgical operation: bag removal is precision work, because the most important thing is what is left, not what is removed.

You have dark circles

The only effective treatment for dark circles is micro-lipofilling – the injection of small quantities of fat taken from the patient – whether the dark circles are linked to eyelid ageing or are constitutional (dark circles can occur as early as age 20).

Your dark circles are colored

When dark circles are colored, Dr. Hayot performs nano-lipofilling to mask the coloration by making the skin of the lower eyelid less transparent. This very recent technique, which is still not widely used in France, is the only valid method for treating dark circles.

Puffiness and dark circles

This is the most frequent case with advancing age. The procedure combines transconjunctival removal of the bags and microlipofilling of the dark circles.

Your lower eyelids are wrinkled

Wrinkles are the most common problem with advancing age. The procedure combines transconjunctival pocket removal with microlipofilling (micro-injection of autologous fatty masses under the skin) to fill in dark circles.

RESULTS OBTAINED WITH LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY

For a problem of bags under the eyes or drooping eyelids, there is no alternative to eyelid surgery. no alternative to eyelid surgery. Anti-wrinkle creams, tips and tricks to avoid puffy eyes have limited effectiveness.

After a lower blepharoplasty, the entire lower lower eye area is rejuvenated by 10 years or more in a single operation cosmetic surgery! The eyelids are smoothed, toned, flattened and beautified without changing the look of the eyes when the surgical procedures are perfectly mastered.

Disocialization lasts around 10 to 15 days, due to bruising and post-operative edema, which is more pronounced after a sub-palpebral lift. After this convalescence period, the result looks natural and is imperceptible to those around you. Inferior blepharoplasty offers patients real psychological relief for patients.

THE BENEFITS OF LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY

Lower blepharoplasty treats the entire lower eye area in a single procedure! The eyelids are smoothed, flattened and beautified..

  • The procedure is calibrated to the morphological indications of each patient, without unnecessary invasive procedures. Pinch blepharoplasty is the ideal procedure if the lower eyelid is simply wrinkled, while a subpalpebral lift is only of interest if the orbicularis muscle needs to be repositioned and malar pockets removed.
  • Scars following this surgery are invisible (trans-conjunctival pocket removal) or very carefully camouflaged in the ciliary margin.
  • The use of a laser scalpel, which coagulates at the same time as the incision is made, avoids bleeding of the lower eyelids, and therefore post-operative hematoma and ecchymosis.
  • Micro-lipofilling is the only effective method for filling dark circles around the lower eyelids. Dr Hayot, a specialist in eye surgery, formally advises against hyaluronic acid injections in dark circles. Experience shows that the product resorbs very poorly in this area of the face, which is not very mobile, and can eventually form bags. What’s more, as the skin around dark circles is very thin, hyaluronic acid can become visible, giving the lower eyelids a bluish tint (Tyndall effect).
  • Nano-lipofilling is a recent and highly innovative technique, which few practitioners have mastered, to effectively treat dark circles.

LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY PROCEDURE AT DR HAYOT

First consultation

Patients undergo an initial consultation with the doctor for a clinical examination of the eyelids and face. Dr. Hayot has been practicing blepharoplasty for over 30 years. His experience enables him to advise you on the procedures best suited to your needs, and to draw up a tailor-made treatment plan. Certain contraindications are possible, notably for individuals with certain eye conditions such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy, and those with serious uncontrolled health problems. In these cases, Dr. Hayot recommends avoiding plastic surgery.

Advice before surgery

The aim of this advice is to minimize risks and prepare patients both physically and mentally. Clear information and open communication with Dr. Hayot are key to approaching surgery with confidence and in the best possible conditions. It is advisable to stop smoking and drinking alcohol several weeks before surgery, as this can affect scar resorption. It is also advisable to limit the use of drugs and supplements that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin or ibuprofen.

The surgical procedure

You arrive on the morning of the operation, having fasted for 8 hours. A general anaesthetic or neuroleptanalgesia (deep local anaesthetic) is administered. The procedure depends on the indications for each patient. The procedure lasts between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours, depending on the procedure.

  • For bag removal (except malar bags), the incision is made inside the eyelid.
  • A pinch blepharoplasty is performed in the eyelash margin (the scar is camouflaged in the lash line) and the surgeon removes 1 to 2 millimeters of excess skin without detaching the deeper tissues.
  • For a sub-palpebral lift, the surgeon makes an incision flush with the eyelashes, passing under the palpebral muscle (orbicularis muscle of the eye) to tighten it.
  • For the treatment of dark circles, the surgeon uses micro-lipofilling (injection of fatty masses) and nano-lipofilling when they are colored. The lower eyelid lift is often combined with fat lipostructure in the cheekbone area to support the lifted eyelids and reduce malar bags.

Post-op advice

Swelling and bruising last 10 to 15 days. A good week’s rest can speed up the healing process. Prescribed eye drops prevent corneal irritation, dry eye and conjunctivitis.
