Dr Hayot recommends transconjunctival removal of bags and excess fat. The scar is therefore hidden in the conjunctiva, inside the lower eyelid. LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY PROCEDURE AT DR HAYOT

Advice before surgery

The aim of this advice is to minimize risks and prepare patients both physically and mentally. Clear information and open communication with Dr. Hayot are key to approaching surgery with confidence and in the best possible conditions. It is advisable to stop smoking and drinking alcohol several weeks before surgery, as this can affect scar resorption. It is also advisable to limit the use of drugs and supplements that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin or ibuprofen.

The surgical procedure

You arrive on the morning of the operation, having fasted for 8 hours. A general anaesthetic or neuroleptanalgesia (deep local anaesthetic) is administered. The procedure depends on the indications for each patient. The procedure lasts between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours, depending on the procedure.

• For bag removal (except malar bags), the incision is made inside the eyelid.
• A pinch blepharoplasty is performed in the eyelash margin (the scar is camouflaged in the lash line) and the surgeon removes 1 to 2 millimeters of excess skin without detaching the deeper tissues.
• For a sub-palpebral lift, the surgeon makes an incision flush with the eyelashes, passing under the palpebral muscle (orbicularis muscle of the eye) to tighten it.
• For the treatment of dark circles, the surgeon uses micro-lipofilling (injection of fatty masses) and nano-lipofilling when they are colored. The lower eyelid lift is often combined with fat lipostructure in the cheekbone area to support the lifted eyelids and reduce malar bags.

Post-op advice

Swelling and bruising last 10 to 15 days. A good week’s rest can speed up the healing process. Prescribed eye drops prevent corneal irritation, dry eye and conjunctivitis. Applying ice compresses for the next 48 hours helps to eliminate swelling. Wearing compression stockings may be advisable in the first few days if you suffer from circulation problems. Don’t expose yourself to the sun or have UV sessions for 3 weeks. Do not wear make-up until the threads have been removed (between days 6 and 8), if necessary.
