Hyaluronidase
Hyaluronidase is a practical and effective antidote for the effects of hyaluronic acid injections that have not produced the desired results, or have been poorly performed. For Dr Hayot, a specialist in eye aesthetics, hyaluronidase has a major advantage: it makes up for the harmful consequences of hyaluronic acid injections performed in the dark circles, a procedure he strongly advises against.Even if some of the side effects of injections are unpredictable, these cases illustrate the need for an experienced practitioner with a perfect command of injections and their effects on the different areas of the face.

What is hyaluronidase?
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme naturally present in the body which has the ability to break down hyaluronic acid. In aesthetic medicine, it is used to correct unsuitable results: overcorrection, asymmetry, poor placement.
When is hyaluronidase indicated?
In most cases, the results of hyaluronic acid injections are discreet and natural, and meet patients’ expectations. However, some patients may be dissatisfied, or find that the result is objectively unaesthetic: bulging or nodules in the injected area, swollen appearance, asymmetry, etc. These undesirable effects may be linked to overcorrection (too much product injected), poor placement or the use of hyaluronic acid unsuited to the indication. Results also depend on how each organism reacts to the product.Last but not least, the injection of hyaluronic acid into dark circles by certain aesthetic doctors can lead to the formation of a kind of puffiness, as the product does not absorb well or at all in this area of the face, and its evolution can be catastrophic! Added to this is a bluish discoloration due to the Tyndall effect. Many patients, who are severely inconvenienced, consult Dr Hayot to find a solution…
How does Hyaluronidase work?
Hyaluronidase helps dissolve inoculated hyaluronic acid in treated tissues, by breaking down its molecular bonds. This rapidly eliminates undesirable effects associated with hyaluronic acid injections, such as overdosing, irregularities or patient dissatisfaction.
Are there any side effects to hyaluronidase?
Hyaluronidase is considered a safe treatment with very good tolerance by the body.Adverse reactions are exceptional. Symptoms of an allergic or inflammatory reaction may include redness, itching, swelling, rash or breathing difficulties. In very rare cases, hyaluronidase may spread beyond the intended injection site, dissolving hyaluronic acid in neighbouring tissues.
How long does hyaluronidase last?
Hyaluronidase injections, whose doses are adjusted to each indication, are performed in the doctor’s office. Depending on the case, one or more sessions are needed to dissolve the hyaluronic acid, which is gradually eliminated from the body. The hyaluronidase continues to act for 10 to 15 days after the session, and it is advisable to consult again to confirm complete dissolution of the hyaluronic acid.
Is it possible to have a hyaluronic acid injection after a Hyaluronidase injection?
Hyaluronic acid injections can be repeated after Hyaluronidase injections, but there must be a one-month delay between the two procedures.
How much does Hyaluronidase cost?
The cost of hyaluronidase injections depends on the quantity of product required and the number of injections. Dr Hayot will provide you with a full estimate during your consultation.
