What is the lion’s wrinkle?
Lion’s wrinkles are located in the interspace between the eyebrows and are vertical. Depending on the individual, there are either two well-defined furrows or several shallow ones.
The formation of frown lines is rather embarrassing, as they give a severe look to the face and the impression that the eyebrows are permanently furrowed. Lion’s wrinkles are a source of embarrassment for people of all ages.
What causes frown lines?
The lion’s wrinkle is an expression wrinkle that gradually forms as a result of repeated contractions of the subcutaneous muscles in this area. In the course of our expressions and facial expressions (speech, smiling, frowning, etc.), the muscles under the skin of the face move and can contract. Hypercontraction of certain muscles can lead to the formation of skin furrows, which are initially only visible when the face is making these expressions. With repeated contractions, and as we age, these furrows become deeper and the wrinkle becomes permanent.
But it can also occur in some younger people. There are other causes, such as hereditary background, exposure to UV rays, a poorly-adapted skincare routine or poor lifestyle habits.
When it’s only slightly pronounced, moisturizing the face can be enough to delay the deeper, more permanent appearance of frown lines. Facial gymnastics exercises can also help slow its appearance. Botox injections, on the other hand, are the only way to eliminate or prevent the appearance of frown lines.
Botulinum toxin in aesthetic medicine to treat frown lines
Botulinum toxin is better known as botox. It is used in injections to smooth the skin and rejuvenate the face by significantly reducing subcutaneous muscle contraction.
To eliminate frown lines, botox injections block the involuntary movements of muscles in the interspace, diminishing the appearance of furrows and preventing them from taking hold for longer.
The procedure is virtually painless, and takes around twenty minutes to perform in the office. After this time, you can return to your normal activities without any problems.
It can be performed at any age and on all skin types.
Botox is extremely well tolerated, and there is very little risk of allergy to the product. It also has few contraindications.
The effects appear from the second day, but will continue to evolve for an optimal effect after 7 to 10 days. They are not permanent, and injections will need to be repeated after several months (botulinum toxin is an absorbable product). The results are natural, with visibly lifted skin, without the need for a scalpel!
If frown lines are too severe, it is possible to complement anti-wrinkle botox injections with hyaluronic acid injections to optimize and prolong the effect.
