On the market for over 15 years, fractional laser works like a “skin smoother”. It causes a more or less profound abrasion of the epidermis over the course of each session.

But how exactly does the fractional laser work?
Invisible to the naked eye, fractional laser light creates several microscopic wells, leaving the skin intact between each one. These tiny wells between the pores of the flesh then gradually heal: as they close, the skin becomes more even and smooth on the surface. Wrinkles disappear from the face!

Facial laser: Indications and contraindications

Before treating wrinkles with the fractional laser, also known as Fraxel, it is imperative to carry out an initial consultation with a laser aesthetic physician to check the feasibility of the treatment.

This anti-aging treatment is recommended for anyone wishing to reduce the depth of their wrinkles and make them gradually disappear. FRAXEL is generally no longer indicated for people over 60, as sagging skin requires a more powerful treatment for optimal results: mini lift, lower eyelid blepharoplasty, lipofilling…

The laserist analyzes your skin’s elasticity, the aging process of your face, and makes sure you’re not taking antibiotics and/or photosensitizing medications.

Fractional laser treatment is not recommended in the following cases:

• Pregnant women
• People with heart disease
• People with skin pigmentation disorders

After laser treatment, sun exposure should be avoided for several weeks to prevent any risk of hyperpigmentation or depigmentation.

Side effects and results of the fraxel laser

The after-effects of laser sessions vary according to the indications of each patient and his or her skin reaction. Redness is generally observed for several hours after the session, and can last up to 48 hours. This is a completely normal reaction, due to the heating of the skin by the fractionated light emanating from the laser.

However, make-up can be applied immediately after the treatment to camouflage any redness on the face.
The aesthetic doctor prescribes the application of a sun cream with a high sun protection factor to avoid exposure to UV rays after the treatment.

In addition to eliminating superficial wrinkles, the Fraxel laser offers many other advantages and can repair many types of skin damage:

• Acne scars
• Brown spots and melasma linked to sun exposure, skin aging or hormonal changes
• Sagging skin and loss of elasticity
• Oily, acne-prone and seborrheic skin

However, it should be noted that fractional laser does not offer a volumizing effect, so it should be combined with hyaluronic acid injections or anti-wrinkle lipofilling for overall facial rejuvenation.
