Lipofilling: Filling products

The advent of wrinkle fillers

Facial aging is the cause of the melting of fat volumes from the forehead to the chin. To counter the effects of ageing and skin ageing, more and more men and women are turning to facial aesthetic medicine and surgery. Numerous fillers such as Radiesse® and collagen have appeared on the market to counteract this loss of fat volume.

Aesthetic medicine: Choosing remodelling injections

“I’ve always opted for resorbable products that guarantee a natural result”. According to Dr Hayot, not all dermal fillers are created equal: to fill hollow circles or deep wrinkles, the Paris facial rejuvenation specialist opts for hyaluronic acid injections. He explains his choice: “Hyaluronic acid is a product that is naturally present in the human body, maintaining the right level of hydration in the dermis and making skin breaks disappear. But after a few months or a few years, the product fades and disappears completely. My patients are not disappointed – everything can be changed!

Lipostructure of dark circles

Dr. Hayot recommends the use of high-quality hyaluronic acid from Allergan™ laboratories: “The effect is immediate and results are convincing, provided the practitioner adopts the right gesture and uses a micro-cannula”. The injection specialist’s technique defines the quality of the result. Injections can be made using a very fine needle inserted into the bone in contact with the treated area. In the case of hollow circles,
the needle should be inserted perpendicularly under the orbital rim of the lower eyelid.

Cosmetic surgery: lipofilling technique

As time goes by, the valley of tears deepens and dark circles appear. When aesthetic medicine and injections of volumizing products such as hyaluronic acid are no longer enough, “it’s time to turn to cosmetic eyelid surgery”. When the hollow of the dark circles is visible and unsightly, lipofilling, also known as lipostructure, is just the thing.

The surgical technique involves reinjecting the patient’s own fat directly into the area to be filled. Microlipostructure can be used to treat dark circles, cheekbones and cheeks, as well as any part of the face where volumes are out of harmony.

The benefits of lipostructure

  • Lipofilling can be performed at the same time as lower blepharoplasty, upper blepharoplasty or a mini-facelift as part of an overall facial rejuvenation.
  • Lipofilling is a technique involving the removal of a very small quantity of fat from the inner surface of the knees or abdomen by liposuction. The surgical procedure is not traumatic for the body.
  • Surgery is fast, the anesthesia is light and
hospitalization is generally on an outpatient basis.
  • The face is rejuvenated and beautifully plumped, with no risk of rejection by the human body. No foreign fillers are injected into the body.

Risks and precautions

Lipofilling is a delicate surgical procedure that must be carried out by a specialist in eyelid surgery, a cosmetic surgeon who is hyperspecialized in the field of the eyes, to avoid the risks of round eyes, over-corrections, and so on.

If too much fat has been injected during the lipostructure procedure, a further operation in the operating room will be necessary to remove the excess fat. This type of complication is rare and without collateral damage.

It is important to note that results are definitive after 3 months, when part of the reinjected fat will have naturally resorbed. It should be borne in mind that 20% to 30% of the total mass disappears during this period.

The plastic surgeon can always carry out some touch-ups by fat transfer or hyaluronic acid injections, but these corrections are extremely rare.
