New eyelid surgery: augmentation blepharoplasty

Smile mimics and the blink responsible for aging

As the years go by, and from the age of 30 onwards, the face becomes more and more marked by small breaks in the skin: deeper and more numerous, these wrinkles are the result of the repetition of a movement, a facial expression and the facial expressions specific to each individual (blinking and smiling).

Wrinkles are stubborn, and unfortunately they are often accompanied by skin slackening and a melting away of fatty volumes as soon as you hit forty!
Unfortunately, these skin-aging phenomena cannot be solved by anti-wrinkle creams. Only Botox and hyaluronic acid injections, or tensor threads, can offer a second youth to women and men who wish to avoid the effects of the passage of time.

However, these anti-aging techniques are only stop-gap solutions, as we mustn’t forget that cosmetic medical treatments are ephemeral and unfortunately do not last over time.

The new technique of addition blepharoplasty rejuvenates the eyes by recreating volumes that have melted away through lipofilling. This new eyelid surgery is a safe and effective technique, increasingly used by pioneering aesthetic surgeons.

Beyond the eyelids, these micro-fat injections can be used to treat all areas of the face:

  • Nasolabial folds;
  • Cheekbones;
  • Chin;
  • Etc.

Facial rejuvenation with microlipofilling

The advantages of the technique are numerous, so it’s only natural that the new technique is making headlines around the world and spreading to the sphere of aesthetic surgeons specializing in facial rejuvenation.

Dr Hayot, always on the lookout for new techniques, tells us: “I discovered the technique at the Centrofacial Rejuvenation congress in March 2015 in Belgium in the presence of Dr Richard BENSIMON (USA), Dr Patrick TONNARD (BE) and Dr Alexis VERPAELE (BE). I was impressed by the patient results achieved by these leading names in cosmetic surgery specializing in the treatment of the orbital and periorbital region. Their use of autologous fat to rejuvenate the eyes is astounding! So it’s hardly surprising that the technique is attracting growing interest from surgeons and their patients alike.

The technique is being used more and more frequently in operating theatres around the world, because “it’s a precise, long-lasting and safe method if it’s carried out with the necessary know-how and expertise” according to Dr Hayot, who adds: “it involves injecting the patient’s own fat, which I remove beforehand from the knee or stomach. There’s no risk of rejection with lipofilling, and the result is truly natural!

The benefits of microlipofilling

There are many advantages to this technique, the main ones being

  • Virtually all the injected fat remains intact and does not disappear. As the fat is injected under the eye socket, it does not melt with the action of eyelid mobility. For addition blepharoplasty of the upper eyelid, the fat is injected directly under the eyebrow, not into the eyelid. The result is definitive!
  • No risk of rejection: the blepharoplasty technique uses the patient’s own fat.
  • De-socialization is short and the post-operative period is rapid: recovery takes around 10 days.
  • The result is natural and discreet.
  • Eyelid surgery is painless. The anesthesia is very light, so you won’t be conscious during the procedure.
