What is a blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to improve the appearance of the upper or lower eyelids, or both. It can be performed for aesthetic reasons, to correct the signs of aging around the eye, or for functional reasons, when drooping eyelids create an impediment to vision.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty aims to correct the upper eyelid to lift it and thus open up the eyes. To achieve this, Dr. Hayot removes excess skin and, if necessary, adds fat to tighten the eyelid, which has become thinner over time.
Lower blepharoplasty, on the other hand, involves correcting the appearance of eyelids that are wrinkled, colored, sagging, hollow or, on the contrary, have fatty bags. Depending on the problem, Dr. Hayot will propose a tailor-made treatment to visibly rejuvenate your eyes.
Who can benefit from eyelid surgery?
Thanks to the precision offered by this procedure, blepharoplasty can now be used to treat tired eyes at any age. Today, the wide range of possibilities offered by eyelid surgery means that we can offer you a tailor-made treatment to correct :
- Upper eyelids with excess skin and/or fatty deposits
- Swollen lower eyelids with fat pockets
- Wrinkles and folds around the eyes
- Deepened and/or colored dark circles, in combination with microlipofilling
From the early thirties onwards, blepharoplasty can be used to enhance tired eyes with small bags and dark circles. Microlipofilling is particularly indicated for its precision in the treatment of minor defects.
After the age of forty, Dr. Hayot focuses on treating the upper part of the face to restore harmony to the eyes. This involves treating drooping upper eyelids, bags that form under the eyes or dark circles that become more pronounced. This may also include treatment of the temples and the valley of tears.
After the age of 50, the first priority is to treat the face as a whole. Eye surgery should be combined with filling in missing volume in the lower part of the face. Injections can also be used to correct the wrinkles and furrows that form in different areas of the face: forehead, nose and mouth contours.
How long does it take to apply make-up after blepharoplasty?
After blepharoplasty, it’s important to allow time for your eyelids to recover their full function.
The post-operative period before you can wear make-up again depends on the technique used.
Lower blepharoplasty is performed without external scarring (transconjunctival incision). The operation leaves no threads on the skin. You will be able to apply make-up after one or two days.
However, when blepharoplasty leaves a scar on the eyelid, you need to wait 5 to 8 days. This time is needed for the threads to be absorbed or removed, and for your upper eyelids to heal properly. To begin with, choose products that are not irritating to the skin.
Once this period has elapsed, you can resume the pleasure of applying make-up and fully appreciate the results of your operation.
