Belkyra®

Belkyra® treatment

A double chin is one of the signs of ageing, and is often a source of considerable discomfort. This is where the Belkyra treatment, also known as Kybella, comes into its own: reducing a double chin without surgery. The jawline regains its firmness and tone.

What is Belkyra®?

The Belkyra® treatment is based on an injectable solution that breaks down fat. It is a very recent treatment whose active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a natural constituent of bile. The effects are long-lasting, as the fat cells, or adipocytes, are destroyed for good.

Who is Belkyra® double chin treatment for?

Treatment with Belkyra® is indicated for anyone wishing to be rid of a double chin without undergoing surgery. A double chin may be the result of weight gain, of the effects of age or of a genetic predisposition.

How does Belkyra® work?

The Belkyra treatment is based on deoxycholic acid, a bile acid produced by the gut microbiota, which has the ability to break down and eliminate fat. When this compound is injected into the double chin, the fat is permanently eliminated. Where excess skin is very marked, liposuction and a facelift remain preferable. Dr Hayot will examine you at an initial appointment and advise you on the solution best suited to your needs.

How does a Belkyra treatment with Dr Hayot work?

Your practitioner determines the area to be treated and the injection points, usually 15 to 20 of them, and adjusts the dose of product to the amount of fat to be dissolved. He may apply an anaesthetic cream, as the procedure is not very painful, then performs micro-injections with a very fine needle. The whole procedure takes about 30 minutes. You may feel some tingling, heaviness and warmth at the end of the session, which quickly subsides and can be relieved by applying ice. Bruising at the injection sites and swelling may occur in the days that follow. In most cases, however, you will be able to resume your normal activities very quickly.

What are the benefits of Belkyra®?

The result is long-lasting. The fat cells are destroyed and do not return. Belkyra is the equivalent of medical liposuction, with the added benefit of a tightening effect produced by the inflammatory reaction that follows the injection. Inflammatory side effects such as redness, swelling and warmth are a sign that the product is having a positive effect on skin retraction.

Are there any contraindications to Kybella® Belkyra® treatment?

A number of contraindications are investigated and ruled out before the decision to treat is made:
  • An infection of the chin
  • Coagulation disorders
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
