Hyaluronic acid injections in dark circles to rejuvenate the eyes

How do you recognise a dark circle?
A dark circle is a hollow area of the face located at the level of the lower eyelid, starting at the inner corner of the eye. Dark circles can be more or less pronounced and more or less deep in the tear trough. They can run in different directions, either very vertically towards the sides of the nose, or more horizontally towards the cheekbones.
Pigmented dark circles can be hereditary or linked to skin ageing, but in every case they reinforce a tired appearance and can make people feel socially uncomfortable.
What are the different types of dark circle?
There are several types of dark circle, which vary from one person to another according to physical and ethnic characteristics:
Hollow dark circles
This is a visible indentation under the eye that hollows out the gaze and often makes it look sad and downcast. Hollow dark circles can be accompanied by bags under the eyes, in which case they are particularly hard to detect. They can be filled with hyaluronic acid injections or with lipofilling.
Pigmented dark circles
Blue, purple or brown circles are generally hereditary. People of North African, Indian or Mexican origin often have dark circles that mark and tire the gaze. People with pigmented dark circles are often self-conscious about an appearance that does not reflect their age or their condition, and try to camouflage it at all costs.
Hyaluronic acid injections are not recommended for blue, red or purple circles, as they increase the transparency of the skin.
Pigmented dark circles can only be treated with depigmenting peels and KTP laser sessions.
Eye rejuvenation with hyaluronic acid in the dark circles
When dark circles begin to appear, hyaluronic acid injections fill in the tear trough and rejuvenate the gaze. The hyaluronic acid forms a small hydrophilic cushion and raises the level of the skin, making the dark circles disappear for 18 to 36 months.
Before the hyaluronic acid injections
This is a gentle, non-traumatic aesthetic medical procedure. Hyaluronic acid injections are carried out at the aesthetic centre in Paris and involve no social downtime. To avoid the risk of small haematomas, we recommend taking arnica granules, a homeopathic preparation, for a few days before the injections. To avoid bleeding, it is also advisable not to take aspirin or anticoagulant medication.
During the hyaluronic acid injections
The aesthetic physician’s technique must be precise and gentle, so as not to traumatise the injected tissue or leave a mark on the lower eyelid. Injecting hyaluronic acid into the dark circles is a very quick treatment, taking around 10 to 15 minutes.
After the hyaluronic acid injections
The dark circles are filled immediately by the treatment, and the result is visible straight away. To avoid the risk of oedema, swelling of the injected area and bleeding, the practitioner provides ice packs to be held under the eye for a few minutes.
A few papules may appear after the injections, lasting 20 to 30 minutes.
Make-up can be applied immediately afterwards. Covering make-up, such as Avène’s Couvrance, can help to camouflage bruises and injection points. Patients can resume their activities as soon as they leave the aesthetic centre, but it is not advisable to use a sauna or hammam in the week following Botox or hyaluronic acid injections.
