What is medical rhinoplasty with hyaluronic acid?
Medical rhinoplasty, also known as hyaluronic acid rhinoplasty, is an aesthetic medicine technique designed to correct slight imperfections of the nose. It allows patients to avoid surgery. Medical rhinoplasty draws on the various properties of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in the body. Hyaluronic acid is a macromolecule that stimulates the production of elastin and collagen, the two fibrous proteins responsible for the elasticity and firmness of the skin. It also has a strong affinity with water: it tends to surround itself with nearby water molecules and so gains considerable volume. For all these reasons, hyaluronic acid is the product of choice for treating volume defects or reshaping certain parts of the body, as in medical rhinoplasty.
During a medical rhinoplasty, small doses of hyaluronic acid are injected in a precise, targeted way in order to reshape the nose zone by zone and achieve the desired result. The patient’s morphology and the natural harmony of their features must of course be respected. To correct a hump, the procedure involves injecting the areas next to the hump, so as to fill in the differences in volume.
What are the advantages of medical rhinoplasty?
Medical rhinoplasty is a reliable alternative to surgery. Its great advantage is that it is far less invasive, if at all, and that post-operative complications are avoided. The procedure takes only ten minutes. Because it is a natural product, hyaluronic acid is extremely well tolerated and after-effects are virtually non-existent. You may leave the practice with slight bruising, but it fades very quickly. The result is visible as soon as the procedure is over, then becomes optimal and stable after a few days.
The effects of hyaluronic acid are resorbable, which means that they fade over time. Medical rhinoplasty therefore does not force the patient into a definitive choice. This is also why it is sometimes performed as a kind of trial before a surgical rhinoplasty.
This aesthetic medical procedure is not, however, a substitute for surgical rhinoplasty when surgery is required. Hyaluronic acid injections are recommended for correcting slight to moderate imperfections, not for deeper restructuring.
How long do the effects of a medical rhinoplasty last?
As mentioned above, hyaluronic acid is naturally resorbed by the tissues, so its effects are temporary. The longevity of the product varies from one patient to another, but on average the effects of the rhinoplasty last 12 months. After that, further injections are needed to maintain a fully satisfactory result.
