What is pinch blepharoplasty?

“Pinch blepharoplasty” means “blepharoplasty by pinching”. This minimally invasive cosmetic surgery procedure involves pinching away excess skin from the lower eyelid, without interfering with the subcutaneous tissues.

This type of eyelid surgery corrects the wrinkled or creased appearance of the lower eyelid, when the skin fold is not too fatty. In pinch blepharoplasty, the surgeon simply removes excess skin from the lower eyelid, without touching the underlying tissues. For this reason, it is a quick and effective procedure when the signs of ageing around the eyes are still moderate. It can also be combined with other procedures, such as the treatment of dark circles.

Pinch blepharoplasty is therefore often performed on patients who are, on average, younger than those who undergo conventional blepharoplasty: from the age of 40, this procedure can be offered to prevent ageing of the eyes.

The two procedures also differ in their after-effects. With pinch blepharoplasty these are very mild, with a reduced risk of post-operative haematoma or oedema. The absence of deep-tissue involvement also reduces post-operative pain, making pinch blepharoplasty a very well-tolerated procedure.
