Lipofilling of dark circles: how to remove hollow circles?

Lipofilling of dark circles: how to remove hollow circles

Dark circles begin to appear around the age of 30, sometimes earlier for hereditary reasons. The hollow under the eye, which runs from the root of the nose to the cheekbone, is linked to the loss of subcutaneous fat that increases with age. It is also favoured by significant weight loss and sometimes by hormonal imbalance. The thin skin of the lower eyelid then reveals the bony contours of the socket.

What is lipofilling (lipostructure)?

Micro-lipofilling of dark circles consists in making hollow circles disappear thanks to a transfer of autologous fat (taken from the patient). The fat is harvested by liposuction from the abdomen or the inner knees, then cleaned, defibrosed and reinjected into the dark circles with a cannula. The injected fat fills the hollows and tightens the skin of the lower eyelids. Minimally invasive, this procedure is often combined with other procedures, such as the removal of eyelid bags, to give a more complete result.

Indications for lipofilling of dark circles in eye surgery

Micro-lipostructure of the dark circle (or dark-circle lipofilling) is indicated for anyone whose gaze is marked by hollow dark circles. Hollow circles result from the loss of the fat between the skin of the lower eyelids and the orbital bone. This is one of the first signs of skin ageing. It is also highly visible, since the skin in this area of the face is very thin and very mobile. Fat injection is the only truly effective and long-lasting solution, unlike hyaluronic acid injections, which resorb poorly and discolour the eyelids. There are few contraindications to this procedure. As a precaution, it is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Course of a micro-lipostructure with Dr Hayot

Dr. Hayot will examine you at an initial consultation and draw up a personalised treatment plan with you. He will then tell you about the various precautions to follow before your lipofilling in Paris, including:
  • Stop smoking one month before the procedure.
  • Do not take anticoagulant or anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • Make an appointment with the anaesthetist at least 48 hours before the operation, to confirm that the procedure is not contraindicated. A blood test will be requested.
  • Fast for 8 hours before surgery.
Surgery is performed as a day case and lasts approximately one to two hours. The procedure is painless, as it is carried out under local anaesthesia or, if required, general anaesthesia. The surgeon first harvests the fat. It is then cleaned, defibrosed and grafted into the hollows of the dark circles with fine cannulas. Dr Hayot also offers lipofilling in Versailles and Neuilly-sur-Seine.

Results of micro-lipostructure

Thanks to Lipofilling of dark circles, the gaze is visibly rejuvenated and brighter. Results become visible after 3 weeks and permanent after 3 months. After the operation, the lower eyelids will show bruising and swelling for around ten days. Ice packs should be used to speed up recovery, and eye drops to soothe dry eyes.
