How long do the effects of cosmetic injections last?
The question of how long hyaluronic acid lasts comes up again and again, and the answer is a complex one. How long the product remains active depends on three factors:
The laboratory and the brand injected
Several laboratories now manufacture injectable hyaluronic acid. They offer ranges of products in gel or liquid form, with different active ingredients and different durations.
The thickness, or degree of cross-linking, of the product injected
For deep treatment of the skin, a thick hyaluronic acid is generally recommended. Because the product injected is thicker, it dissolves more slowly in the body and therefore remains active for longer.
The area in which the product is injected
The duration of action varies with the area injected. Used as a skin booster or in mesotherapy, its moisturising action lasts up to 3 months. Used to treat wrinkles, the product lasts between 6 and 12 months.
To plump up areas of the body that lack volume, the product injected is generally more cross-linked and thicker. It can last up to 24 months.
There are, on the other hand, areas where this product is not resorbed. That is particularly true of dark circles, where it even tends to swell over time. To correct dark circles, Dr Hayot therefore prefers lipofilling, whose results are long-lasting but more harmonious.
Hyaluronic acid, a molecule that does you good
Depending on the area injected and the wrinkles to be treated, the product lasts between 18 and 24 months when injected deeply, and 6 months when injected superficially.
How long hyaluronic acid lasts is a fairly complex question, since it depends on many factors.
That said, it is worth noting that it offers several advantages:
- It is the injectable product best tolerated by the body.
- A very limited risk of allergy
- It delivers natural results
- It is the only product for which an antidote exists, making it easy to remove from the body if necessary.
